KEY FACTS
- Coinbase prediction markets now available in all 50 U.S. states through Kalshi partnership with $1 minimum trades
- Exchange acquired The Clearing Company to scale prediction markets offering as part of "everything exchange" strategy
- Prediction market volumes surging industry-wide with Goldman Sachs, Robinhood, and CME Group entering the space
Coinbase has launched prediction markets nationwide across all 50 U.S. states through its partnership with Kalshi. The expansion follows a limited rollout announced last month. Users can now trade on real-world events including politics, sports, entertainment, and economic indicators.
The exchange sources all market flow from Kalshi, a Commodity Futures Trading Commission–regulated prediction market platform. Coinbase plans to support contracts from additional platforms in the coming months. Minimum trade sizes start at $1 in USD or USDC.
Users can manage prediction market positions alongside their existing crypto, equities, and cash balances. Everything operates within the same interface. Prediction market contracts reflect the collective probability assigned by traders to specific outcomes.
The full U.S. rollout arrives amid surging interest in event-based trading. Combined volumes on Polymarket and Kalshi surpassed tens of billions of dollars last year. Current activity is on track to hit record highs again this month, according to The Block’s Data Dashboard.
Coinbase Joins Major Players in Event-Based Trading Rush
Traditional trading and fintech firms have recently entered the prediction markets space. CME Group partnered with FanDuel to launch its offering. Robinhood and Webull have also added prediction markets as a new product category.
Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs is exploring opportunities in the sector. The surge of institutional interest marks a significant shift for an asset class that previously operated on the fringes of regulated finance.
For Coinbase, prediction markets form part of a broader strategic vision. The exchange aims to transform into an “everything exchange” offering stocks, derivatives, stablecoins, payments, tokenized assets, and onchain products. The goal is keeping users within a single, comprehensive platform.
Clearing Company Acquisition Deepens Prediction Markets Push
Coinbase agreed to acquire The Clearing Company on December 23, 2025. The deal marks the exchange’s tenth acquisition announcement this year. It deepens Coinbase’s commitment to event-based trading.
The Clearing Company was founded by Toni Gemayel earlier in 2025. Gemayel previously led growth at both Polymarket and Kalshi. The startup secured $15 million in seed funding in August, with Coinbase Ventures among the investors.
The transaction combines cash and Coinbase stock. A company spokesperson described the deal value as immaterial. Closing is expected in January following standard conditions.
Nearly the entire Clearing Company team will join Coinbase following the acquisition. The startup employed approximately 10 people building an onchain, regulated prediction markets platform.
Max Branzburg, Coinbase’s vice president of product management, outlined the strategic rationale behind the acquisition. He stated that more of the financial system is moving onchain. Prediction markets represent a significant part of that shift.
The acquisition followed Coinbase’s prediction markets launch in mid-December. Users gained access to trade on elections, economic data, and sports outcomes. Coinbase initially sourced all liquidity from Kalshi at launch.
The nationwide expansion positions Coinbase competitively against other platforms in the rapidly growing prediction markets sector. Combined with the Clearing Company acquisition, the exchange has assembled key talent and infrastructure. The moves signal Coinbase’s intent to capture significant market share in event-based trading.
Coinbase’s integrated approach allows users to access prediction markets without leaving the platform. This convenience factor may prove decisive in attracting both retail and institutional traders. The exchange continues building toward its vision of a comprehensive financial services destination.
