Kraken, one of the industry’s most established and secure cryptocurrency exchanges, has announced a move into traditional finance.
Starting with a select group of U.S. states, the platform now offers commission-free trading on over 11,000 stocks and ETFs.
The initial rollout includes residents of New Jersey, Connecticut, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Idaho, Iowa, Rhode Island, Kentucky, Alabama, and the District of Columbia, with plans for a nationwide expansion in the coming months.
For the first time, Kraken users can trade stocks and ETFs directly within their accounts alongside their existing cryptocurrency holdings.
This seamless integration allows users to manage their entire portfolio, including crypto, stocks, cash, and stablecoins, all from one platform.
Kraken’s Bold Push into Traditional Finance
This move into traditional finance comes at a time when market sentiment has been deeply shaken.
Following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of reciprocal import tariffs on April 2, investor confidence has been rattled, resulting in a historic $ 5 trillion loss in the S&P 500 over two days, surpassing even the downturn during the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
In the wake of such turbulence, Kraken’s decision to expand its offerings is strategic. It positions the exchange to meet the growing demand for a unified trading experience.
Arjun Sethi, Kraken’s co-CEO, emphasized the broader vision behind the expansion, stating,
“Crypto isn’t just evolving, it’s becoming the backbone for trading across asset classes, such as equities, commodities, and currencies. As demand for 24/7 global access grows, clients want a seamless, all-in-one trading experience.”
Through Kraken’s mobile app, Kraken Pro app, or Kraken Pro web, users can manage their crypto and traditional assets in one place, creating a streamlined, user-friendly experience.

In addition to offering stocks and ETFs, Kraken has strengthened its role in global payments. In a partnership with Mastercard, Kraken users can now make payments with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies at over 150 million Mastercard-supported locations worldwide.
This collaboration between crypto and traditional finance is part of a broader goal to blur the line between them and ensure seamless experience for adoption.
